Teri Umeed Tera Intezaar - Deewana (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

Ah - September draws to a close and we can smell the fragrance of Sharadotsav aka Durga Puja bearing down upon us as Ocotber approaches. The last song of September is also from the last Hindi movie I saw in India before leaving for the US. Thankfully the Shah Rukh Khan era of Bollywood that started with this movie happened post my departure :D - although in this song you wonder at the age gap between Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharati.

This song was a hug hit also - although Kumar Sanu won his third consecutive Filmfare Award for Sochenge Tumhe Pyar from the same movie.

So ends a beautiful September with perfect temperatures and mostly clear blue skies. The days are growing shorter and I can feel the change in the air - which is why I love September. This is by no means a complete listing of songs during the 90-92 period - this theme will be back in a few months :D. After a short break of about 3 days, I will be back again on October 4th with a special post :D

Tu Tu Tu Tu Tu Tara - Bol Radha Bol (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

A hilarious movie - and this song was a big big hit :D ... and Kumar Sanu again :P

Wada Raha Sanam - Khiladi (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

This was one of the last three movies that I saw in Delhi during Summer 1992, before heading out to the US. This is another Kishore Kumar clone - Abhijeet. Nice song and an interesting crime thriller.

Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai - Saajan (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

:O I kept talking about Rafi clones and forgot to mention Kishore Kumar clones. Well - Kumar Sanu is the unquestioned numero uno among Kihore Kumar clones - another singer that made his fame singing primarily in Durga Puja gatherings in Calcutta (Of course, not coincidentally Durga Puja is next month :P). There were other songs in Saajan that were far far more popular, but this song earned Kumar Sanu the second of his five consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer.

5 footnotes:

Tu Na Ja Mere Badshah - Khuda Gawah (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

Gorgeous song - this is the other Rafi clone Mohd Aziz, who rose to fame singing Rafi songs during the Puja season in Park Circus in Calcutta - hometown boy :D

2 footnotes:

Gori Hai Kalaiyan - Aaj Ka Arjun (1990)

Posted by Nerdyy

A really really bad movie with a really great song - this song was the biggest hit of 1990. A very un-Bappi Lahiri like composition - beautifully sung by Lata and horrifically sung by Shabbir Kumar :P. Shabbir Kumar was the first Rafi clone that became popular after the super success of Betaab. This was pretty much his last hit song.

Tu Pyar Hai Kisi Aur Ka - Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

This movie had a bunch of hit songs - this one comes towards the end of the movie. The movie was based on It Happened One Night - a very cute love story :D

tu pyar hai kisi aur ka tujhe chahta hai koi aur hai
tu pasand hai kisi aur ki tujhe maangta joi aur hai

...the lyrics are loosely based on the famous ghazal main khayal hoon kisi aur ki mujhe sochta koi aur hai, sar-e-aaina mera aks hai pas-e-aina koi aur hai

3 footnotes:

Chandni Raat Hai - Baaghi (1990)

Posted by Nerdyy

Big hit song - movie eh not so much - apparently the heroine was 16 years old when this was filmed :O

2 footnotes:

Jao Tum Chahe Jahan - Narasimha (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

Another big hit song - the movie was focused on Sunny Deol - but this song is quite nice - one of the last Amit Kumar hits.

Happy Fall 2013

Posted by Nerdyy

Happy First Day of Fall everyone - my second favorite season of the year - and yes the trees are nowhere near this level of beauty but it will be here soon :D

4 footnotes:

Yaara Seeli Seeli - Lekin (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

A great movie and Dimple turns in the performance of her life. This movie had some great songs as well but this was the pick of the lot - very popular, beautifully composed and sung by Lata who won the National Award for this song.

"seeli" means wet - as in seeli lakdi .. where the wood has some moisture in it (so wont burn) ... yaara seeli seeli birha ke raat ka jalna means the night of seperation is too moist to burn away quickly, i.e. it is passing by too slowly :D

( I found this explanation online but one of my grad student frnds in Dallas had given me a similar explanation)

4 footnotes:

Saudagar Sauda Kar - Saudagar (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

The debut movie of Manisha Koirala, this movie was better known for the two aged drama kings Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar - and a weird Shakuni like character. Nevertheless the movie and the songs were very successful. This song juxtaposed with the Aashiqui song gives you an idea of the change that was apparent in Hindi movie music - Laxmikant Pyarelals full blast symphonic background score versus Nadeem Shravans more synthetic sounds.

Dhak Dhak Karne Laga - Beta (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

Ohhhh Madhuri :rolleyes ... I remember watching this on the big 70mm screen with a late night show audience that went completely silent while this song was on LOLLL - all their intense concentration was on the screen.

7 footnotes:

Dheere Dheere Pyar Ko - Phool Aur Kaante (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

Ajay Devgans debut movie and one of my favorite songs of all time :D

3 footnotes:

Mujhe Neend Na Aaye - Dil (1990)

Posted by Nerdyy

My first venture into a movie hall in Delhi resulted in this movie being viewed - Aamir Khan's first step towards becoming a superstar; and of course there is Madhuri :D

4 footnotes:

Jumma Chumma De De - Hum (1991)

Posted by Nerdyy

Same year there were two songs based on the same source that came out (Tama by Mory Kante)- one was this and one was Tama Tama Loge from Thanedaar. The arrangement in this one is significantly better - and of course this has Amitabh.

7 footnotes:

Saat Samundar Paar - Vishwatma (1992)

Posted by Nerdyy

After the big success of Tridev especially the Oye Oye song, everyone was looking forward to Vishwatma - unfortunately the movie turned out to be kinda boring and headache inducing. This song though is rocking :D

Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi - Aashiqui (1990)

Posted by Nerdyy

Half of September is gone and Mr Nerdyy has only posted two songs :O What da hell - oh well - tis what it is :D Lets hope the second half of September wont be this bad. For the rest of September I am concentrating on songs between June 1990 till July 1992 - what you may ask is the reason behind having a theme devoted to the time between these two dates? Well - it was my blissful two years in Delhi - and I had the time of my life:D -  most of the movie viewing during this time was done at night(either walking over to Kamala Nagar - Amba Cinema, or venturing a little further out on a bus to Batra or Alpana Cinemas)  except for the once in a while weekend ventures into Connaught Place or JNU. The beauty of Delhi cinema halls - every one of them had 70mm projection screens and every one of them had awesome sound systems.

This movie released in 1990 marked the beginning of Nadeem Shravan in Hindi movies and also the beginning of Kumar Shanu.

dheere dheere se meri zindagi mein aana
dheere dheere se mere dil ko churana
tum se pyar humme hai kitna jaane jaana
tumse milkar tumko hai batana

Tailgating

Posted by Nerdyy

This was last weekend before the cowboys game ... and yes there were burgers and also sweet potatoes that were grilled :D ... I took this pic specially for my two veggie frnds that keep bugging me abt only posting beef pics LOLL :D

Beets n corn - both tasted yumm as did the sweet potatoes (and the burgers) :D

8 footnotes:

New Harvest - Fresh off the Vine

Posted by Nerdyy

That's at least ten pounds that I picked today morning :O Time to make some marinara sauce and maybe some bolognese too :P

5 footnotes:

Garden Goodies

Posted by Nerdyy

:O yes yes I know my posts nowadays are infrequent - I barely have time to hang out anywhere but such is life - sometimes you just get busy :P

Here's a buncha stuff from my garden - all very colorful

I grew cucumbers this year and they turned out quite well - unfortunately the late dry spell meant that not too many flowers fruited ... and a squirrel ate some of them too :O. The green tomatoes are called Green Zebras and they are green even when they are ripe - they have yellowish tinge stripes when they ripen - and they are absolutely delicious :D

More Cherokees.

And Yellow Pear tomatoes - a late bloomer this year :D

Hai Agar Dushman - Hum Kissise Kum Nahin (1977)

Posted by Nerdyy

Yesterday was Asha Bhonsle's 81st birthday - here is one of her all time classic songs.

One of the best qawaalis of all time - and a big hit to boot :D

How 'Bout Them Cowboys :D

Posted by Nerdyy

Aaahh :P The best weekend in the year is here :P The start of the NFL (National Football League) season ... and for the uninitiated Football (so named because the oval shaped ball that is primarily thrown around caught and run with, is of a foot in length :P) - not to be confused with the other football that the world plays that we call soccer muahhahaha :P

I shall be avidly following my favorite team - the Dallas Cowboys :D - the nickname "America's Team" was given to them in 1978 because it seemed like people in every stadium across the country were Cowboys Fans. And even though baseball is called Americas pastime, Football is really America's game - all you have to do is go to any bar in any place in this country on a Saturday (for the college version), a Sunday or a Monday night (for the pro versions) and you will see a LARGE number of people gulping beer, screaming at the TV and generally having a good time. And there are of course the tailgaters at the stadiums - people that go to watch the games, show up at the stadium 5-10 hours in advance carrying their grills in their trucks or cars or SUVs or minivans, fire up the grill, cook their meats (and err umm veggies) and imbibe their beers :D - all this before they make their way to the stadium to watch the games.

Ah Football Season - so emblematic of Fall :D

The Cowboys play the hated New York Giants at 7:45 pm Central tonight :D

Geet Gaata Chal - Geet Gaata Chal (1976)

Posted by Nerdyy

Welcome September - as it turned out I became super busy and its been a week since I last posted ... all my faithful followers may need to get used to some disruptions - work is such that sometimes I'm going to have to take breaks from posting. September as it turns out is my third favorite month - so this month I will be posting some of my favorite songs - well all songs I post are favorites but these will be the creme de la creme of favorites. And of course I wouldnt want to step on the toes of November and December, which would also be some type of favorites - but more of that in November and December.

Here is a song that kinda expresses what we all feel

Two paarts of the song :D

geet gaata chal o saathi gungunata chal
o bandhu re
hanste hansate beete har ghari har pal :D
