Christmas break time for da blog as well as for me :D - a short time frame to travel a very long distance and back but thats the way things have shaken out this year :D - have a wonderful break my amazing friends and I'll catch up with all of you in about 10 days.
Nazar Ke Saamne - Aashiqui (1990)
Love Makes Life Live - or so went the billboard for this movie. Aashiqui introduced us to Nadeem Shravan and it was the start of Kumar Shanu's domination of Bollywood music. Both Nadeem Shravan and Kumar Shanu won the first of several Filmfare Awards with this movie. All the songs were popular but this was the most popular one sitting at number 12 for the year 1990.
Mere Haathon Mein - Chandni (1989)
The movie that saved Yashraj Films and Yash Chopra's career - another movie that relies on Sridevis starpower and acting abilities to carry it - and yes the music was awesome too - this song was number 3 in 1989
Keh Do Ke Tum Ho Meri Warna - Tezaab (1988)
The moosic journey continues - with this song where Ms Laylaas heartthrob Anil Kapoor decides that the best way to woo Mr. Nerdyys ex-heartthrob Madhuri Dixit is to fake a suicide, get the girl to cry and then startle her by coming to life and sing a song together LOL :D - this song was number 13 in 1988 and number 6 in 1989.
Aap Ke Aa Jaane Se - Khudgarz (1987)
Govinda, Neelam .... one of my favorite songs ... and yes - dance away - the number 10 song of 1987 and the number 8 (jointly) song of 1988.
Main Teri Dushman - Nagina (1986)
The snake charmer and the Nagin :P - the importance of this movie cannot be overstated - it showed for the first time that a heroine could make a movie run on her own :D and Sridevi (she of the magical smile :wink) is still the only female Bollywood superstar. This movie was followed by Chaalbaaz, Chandni, Lamhe and even Khuda Gawah with Amitabh in the lead was ultimately a Sridevi movie. This movie had great songs with this song at number 4 (another song from this movie was at number 5).
O Maria - Saagar (1985)
The return of Rishi Kapoor and Dimple - one of the best love stories ever made with amazingly beautiful music by R. D. Burman. This song was number 8 in 1985. Both Kamal Hassan and DImple won FIlmfare Awards for Best Actor and Actress respectively.
Tumse Milkar - Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985)
Shivranjani IV :D - this was the movie where Mithun went from Disco Dancer to normal Bollywood star. After the musically disastrous 1984, the year 1985 gave us a glimpse back at the early 80s style music with three musical superhits - Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Saagar and this. This beautiful love song was the number 2 song of 1985
Tu Rootha To - Jawaani (1984)
The debut movie of my second crush - even though the movie was a big flop - this song could be heard everywhere and was the number 11 song of 1985. Moral of the story - if youre a gal and your SO is mad at you - lehrao your zulfein on his face and sing this song and everything will be A OK :P
Yaad Teri Aayegi - Ek Jaan Hai Hum (1983)
Long before the current version of Anu Malik - there was Annu Malik :D - and this was his first big hit - the number 8 song (jointly) of 1984. And yes its a Shivranjani song again :D
Tu Mera Janoo Hai - Hero (1983)
The debut movie (released at the end of 1983) of Meenakshi Seshadri with great songs to boot - this song was the #1 song of 1984. This movie also had a couple of other hit songs including Pyar Karnewale Kabhi Darte Nehin which I had posted on BE.
Jab Hum Jawaan Honge - Betaab (1981)
Although the song Shayad Meri Shaadi ka Khayal was the number 1 song of 1983 on the Binaca Geetmala year end program, this song completed its 25 week run in January 1984, easily overtaking the Souten song in total points. The movie was a big hit also, and this was the first big hit for the Rafi clone Shabbir Kumar.
Dil Cheez Kya Hai - Umrao Jaan (1981)
A stunningly beautiful song that won Asha Bhonsle a National Award for best female singer and also won for Khayyam the best Music Director Filmfare Award for 1981 - this song was #8 in 1982.
is anjuman mein aapko aana hai baar baar
deewaro o dar ko ghaur se pehchan lijiye :D
is anjuman mein aapko aana hai baar baar
deewaro o dar ko ghaur se pehchan lijiye :D
Dekho Maine Dekha Hai - Love Story (1981)
R.D.Burman provided the music for three star sons' debut movies in the time period 198-1983 - Sunny Deol in Betaab, Sunjay Dutt in Rocky and Kumar Gaurav (Rajendra Kumars son) in Love Story; Betaab and Love Story were mega hits (both the movie and the music) while Rocky was an average hit. This song was #9 in 1981.
Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi - Kranti (1981)
Beautiful and very popular, this was the number 2 song of 1981.
Tere Mere Beech Mein - Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981)
Raag Shivranjani - the number 5 song of 1981, I had posted the Lata SPB version of this song earlier - this is the sadder version sung by S. P. Balasubramanyam.
tere mere beech mein kaisa hai yeh bandhan ajnaana
main nehin jaana tune nehin jaana
ik dor kheenche dooja doura chala aaye
kachhe dhaage mein bandha chala aaye
aise jaise koi deewana maine nehin jaana tune nehin jaana
tere mere beech mein kaisa hai yeh bandhan ajnaana
main nehin jaana tune nehin jaana
ik dor kheenche dooja doura chala aaye
kachhe dhaage mein bandha chala aaye
aise jaise koi deewana maine nehin jaana tune nehin jaana
Gori Tera Gaon Bada Pyara - Chitchor (1976)
Another simple and beautiful song - this movie had great songs - this song was number 6 in 1976.
Jaaneman Jaaneman - Chhoti Si Baat (1976)
A delightful song composed by Salil Chaudhury and sung beautifully by Yesudas and Asha - this was the number 11 song of 1976.
Ek Din Bik Jayega - Dharam Karam (1975)
During this period Raj Kapoor and RK films had this strange dichotomy about music directors. Even though it was under the RK banner, Randhir Kapoor preferred his friend R.D.Burman as the music director rather than Laxmikant Pyarelal. And R.D. came up with this iconic Raj Kapoor song sung by (who else) Mukesh :D - this song played for 10 weeks in 1975 and was the #28 song of the year, and completed its run of 8 more weeks the next year to be the #5 (joint) song of 1976
parde ke peeche baithi saanwal gori
thaam ke tere mere man ki dori
ye dori na chhoote ye bandhan na toote
bhor hone wali hai ab raina hai thodi
sar ko jhukaye tu baitha kya hai yaar
gori se naina jor fir duniya se dol
parde ke peeche baithi saanwal gori
thaam ke tere mere man ki dori
ye dori na chhoote ye bandhan na toote
bhor hone wali hai ab raina hai thodi
sar ko jhukaye tu baitha kya hai yaar
gori se naina jor fir duniya se dol
Jhoot Bole Kauwwa Kaate - Bobby (1973)
Raj Kapoor dumps his favorite music directors Shankar Jaikishan following Jaikishan's death, and goes with Laxmikant Pyarelal who come up with this classic score. The song Hum Tum Ik Kamre Mein was the #4 song of 1973, while this song was the #21 song of 1973 (playing for 12 weeks) and played for 6 more weeks in 1974 and was the #4 (joint) song of 1974.
Duniya Mein Logo Ko - Apna Desh (1972)
R.D. Burmans first big hit in his own voice (Yes Piya Tu from the year before was a big hit too, but he only had the refrain Monica O My Darling in that) - this was the #7 song of 1972.

Chura Liya Hai Tumne - Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973)
Goodbye November Hello December :D Goodbye Kishore Kumar Hello Other Superhit songs :D - we start off the month with this small oasis in Mohd Rafi's desert that was the period between 1971 and 1976. Barely two or three songs of his would be popular every year - and this all time classic was one of those - the #11 song of 1974.
