The rustle of leaves falling silently to its own rhythm, the smell of the wood burning fireplaces, the cool or sometimes chilly winds, the unique and creative dressed up kids and adults seeking to put the fear of the season in us, walking along the sidewalk, spent leaves crunching under their feet ... OH what the heck am I talking about here - its 94F outside, hot, humid; well hello there Fall in August or should I say August Fall!
Yesterday, the jasmine plant on my deck assured me through subliminal signals (actually not that subliminal, I saw buds), that I would indeed still get to experience her tropical fragrance for at least one more week!
But yes, soon the weather will make a turn for the normal and to celebrate the wonderful season that is upon us, let us experience this:
A word of caution - yesterday's song posting wasn't meant to imply that I was ready to put on a forlorn face and start walking west to find that elusive light, and today's posting isn't meant to imply that I'm ready to travel to heaven's door. Sometimes a song is just a song that I liked, and me posting lyrics just means that I found them interesting, not in any way implying that the lyrics reflect what I feel :D
Once again the common theme is "The Walking Dead", which makes sense because a couple of weeks ago I was watching some of the episodes as part of a walking dead marathon that was on TV. Hence, some of these songs ...
O Lord in the Darkness Lead me on my way Lead me home ...
O Lord, Heaven's waiting Open up your door Lead me home.
Sometimes called "The Governor's Song" (walking dead reference), this song also mirrors my journey westward two decades+ ago, still searching for that light though.
In my hands, I hold the ashes
In my veins, black pitch runs
In my chest, a fire catches
In my way, a setting sun
Dark clouds gather 'round me
To the west, my soul is bound
And I will go on ahead, free
There's a light yet to be found
The last pale light in the west
The last pale light in the west
And I ask for no redemption
In this cold and barren place
Still I see the faint reflection
And so by it, I got my way.
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
In days long gone, I used to be an avid soccer fan (this was pre-92, of course) - and something that I was always intrigued by the singing by fans, especially in European soccer. This is the most famous football anthem originally performed by Gerry and the Pacemakers, made famous primarily by fans of Liverpool FC but other clubs as well.
In life we make many friends, and sometimes flippantly we use the term BFF to describe some, maybe as a platitude, maybe to convince ourselves that there is indeed a "forever friend" when it may not really be true. However, if we are really lucky, sometimes a friend is truly a forever friend. The words of this song encapsulates the forever.
Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone.
... OR How to start a friendship, Dystopia Edition.
A long time ago (or in the future, maybe a forgotten (yet not) Tuesday of September)
In a Galaxy Far Far Away (or here in post-apocalyptic earth)
A garbage compacting Wall-E meets a probe droid Eve (with big round blue eyes!), proving that sometimes you make a new friend just because! And even robots can have those memorable first encounters :)
