Mera Kuch Samaan - Ijazaat (1988)

Posted by Nerdyy

Happy Birthday R. D. Burman. There has always been a special sparkle in every song sung by Asha Bhonsle for R.D. Burman and why not - they were soulmates :D So, to celebrate the birthday of one of my Gurujis, I chose this masterpiece of a composition. When she still did shows post RDs death, Asha used to always sing this song at the end and break down into tears - the lyrics are just that beautiful and powerful. Asha won the National Award for best playback singer and Gulzar won the National Award for best lyricist (note the non rhyming nature of the lyrics).

mera kuch samaan tumhare paas para hai
sawaan ke kuch bheege bheege din rakhe hai
aur mere ek khat mein lipti raat pari hai
woh raat bujha do mera woh samaan lauta do :)

ek akeli chhatri mein jab aadhe aadhe bheeg rahe the
aadhe sookhe aadhe geele sookha to main le aayi thi
geela man shayad bistar ke paas pada ho
woh bhijwado mera woh samaan lauta do :)
