American Horror Story - TV Series

Well - don't be so shocked ! This is a blog about music and all other of my passions - one of which is watching well crafted and well acted TV shows :D. And I'm pretty impervious to labels that people put on different genres - what I mean is that I'm equally prone to enjoy Homeland - a CIA drama as I am to enjoy Downton Abbey - which can be described as an early 20th century British high society soap opera.
The purpose of this post is to make my readers aware of this excellent series that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching :D
Season 1: Murder House
The story starts with marital problems - with the couple (and their teenage daughter) seeking a change of scenery from the East Coast to Los Angeles to work things out as a family. They buy an old but gorgeous mansion with a dark history of repeated killings through generations of new and unrelated inhabitant. They eventually discover that the house is haunted and come to discover all the different ghosts that inhabit the house - and some come as total surprises to them. There are many remarkable frightening moments in the series, and there is one stunning twist right in the middle of the series, and a somewhat more predictabe twist at the end. All in all - it is a fascinating watch, and I was truly scared when any of the protagonists walked down to the basement :D
Season 2: Asylum
I just finished watching Season 2 and it was a completely different but equally satisfying experience compared to Season 1. The story takes us to a New England sanitarium run by the Catholic Church, where the patients are essentially misfits of society - murderers etc. The horror in this story has less to do with explicitly being scared of ghosts or the supernatural but of being revolted by the cruelty that human beings inflict on other human beings. The story also has its many twists but in this case it is more compelling drama rather than shocking events. Again a very fascinating watch and highly recommended.
