The Hindustani classical version of this superhit song - you could not get a more perfect example of R. D. Burmans versatility - a softer romantic version and this more classical based version each with its own flavor, each unique and each a classic. Both Kishore Kumar and Parveen Sultana were nominated for the Filmfare Award (male playback and female playback) but Parveen Sultana won hers, while Kishore Kumar was beaten out by his son Amit Kumar for Love Story.
